Are you tired of trying to figure out Power Apps, Power Automate and SharePoint?

It doesn't matter whether you're a Power User, IT Pro, Architect, Business Analyst or Excel wizard ...

At some point, your business will call on you to develop (or help) build a Power Platform solution that solves and automates a key business process for them.

Unfortunately, there's no "Silver Bullet" when it comes to mastering applications like Power Apps and Power Automate. Google, Bing and YouTube can be great at helping you solve low-level "It's stopped working" problems, but they don't teach you how to build an entire real-world application starting from scratch.

(Let's face it, 99% of the time we don't even know what to search for!)

Building a modern application using the Power Platform isn't just about opening Power Automate and creating a Flow. There are so many big (and tiny) decisions to make like: "How do I secure my app?", "Where exactly should I store my data?" or "Should I use a Form or a Power App?".

It can often be so overwhelming and frustrating you just give up or do it wrong.

To develop a robust Power Platform solution you will need to to master the following:

  • How to gather requirements, create a design, and effectively test your solution.
  • How to build and architect your solution (the right way) using Power Apps, Power Automate and SharePoint.
  • What to do when your application becomes so popular it outgrows its original design.

This live "follow along" workshop will be the best 5-hours you invest your time in. It will save your "future self" countless hours by avoiding the pitfalls of deploying a solution that was designed and developed incorrectly from the start.

What is the "real world" app we will build, together?

During this Workshop, we will develop an 'alerts & notifications app' that can be used to alert staff members to important announcements from your business. The app's UI will be built using Power Apps and will also use Power Automate to move and trigger data as required. The data will be stored and managed in SharePoint Lists.

In the final part of the workshop, we will also discuss when, why and how you'd scale your application to use Azure Storage Tables and Logic Apps.

PART 1

Requirements and Designing the Solution

Identify requirements and the basic functionality that the solution must include and then plan “how” we are going to make it work with the tools that we have available to us.

You will learn:

  • How to define a strategy to build your application.
  • How to set goals so you can measure your success.
  • How to gather and document your requirements
  • How to create a test plan to make sure your app is a success!

PART 2

Power Apps And Power Automate  Training

An introduction to what the Power Platform is and what each of the services can be used for, and what we will be using them for, including how to connect to your data.

You will learn:

  • What exactly is the "Power Platform"?
  • Power Apps overview
  • Power Automate overview
  • Power Platform vs Custom Code

PART 3

Building the Application

I will build the application live in the workshop. My goal is for you to walk away with enough knowledge to design and build the app for yourself, in your own tenant.

You will learn:

  • How to build the application, step-by-step.
  • How to integrate other services (e.g. SharePoint Lists).
  • How to achieve your goals!
  • I will share tips and tricks that I've learned along the way.

PART 4

Next Steps for your Application

I will tell you how you can take your application to the next level. How to “grow” it out of SharePoint lists and how to move into Azure Storage Tables and Logic Apps.

You will learn:

  • How to start "small" and what to do when you need to scale to the enterprise.
  • How you can extend/improve your solution using Logic apps and Azure functions.
  • We will also touch on Power BI and reporting.
  • Now you've built the app, what are the next natural steps? Let's discuss!

What are we going to build?

During the workshop we're going to build a notifications system that will enable an organization to send alerts to staff who have subscribed to receive them. It will showcase how the Power Platform can work in harmony with SharePoint as it's data store.

In SharePoint we will:

  • Pending Notifications: A list to store any pending notifications (to be sent).
  • Sent Notifications: A list to store all notifications that have been sent out to the subscribers.
  • User Notification Registrations: A list containing all of the subscribers who wish to receive alerts.
  • Admin Defined Content Sources: A process to send out notifications for certain types of content on a scheduled basis.
  • List Hygiene: This will allow us to remove old notifications greater than 5-days.

In Power Automate we will:

  • Register new user notification: When a new user wants to subscribe we will use a Flow to achieve process their request.
  • Send Notifications: When the notifications are ready to be sent, will we do this via a Power Automate Flow.
  • Poll for New Content: A scheduled Flow will be created to check for any new notifications to be sent.

In Power Apps we will:

  • My Notifications Tab: This screen will allow each subscriber view their active notifications.
  • My Registrations Tab: This tab will gives the subscriber the ability to manage their subscription list.
  • Notifications Detail Screen: Allows the subscriber to view (and dismiss) information about the notification in detail.

Here's what You'll Gain
